Probe Lab Engineer

As a Probe Lab Engineer, you’ll be responsible for the repair, testing, and documentation of ultrasound probes, using a methodical approach to diagnose faults and make sure every unit meets the required standard. It’s a practical role that suits someone who likes solving problems, working carefully, and seeing a clear result from their work.

What will your day to day look like? 

You’ll carry out hands-on ultrasound probe repair, testing and documentation, while helping improve repair methods, lab processes and technical standards. 

• Repair ultrasound probes after appropriate training and authorisation 
• Follow approved repair schemes, procedures and quality-controlled processes 
• Carry out repair-related testing and checks against defined acceptance criteria 
• Maintain accurate repair records, test records and supporting documentation 
• Support the development of new repair techniques, methods and production processes 
• Take part in practical trials, method development and controlled experimentation 
• Investigate repair failures, material behaviour and process variation 
• Help turn technical observations into documented, repeatable repair processes 
• Support validation and verification activity for new or improved repair methods 
• Work with experienced repair technicians, clinical scientists and quality colleagues 
• Use tools, test equipment and production equipment safely and accurately 
• Contribute to a culture of quality, curiosity, learning and continuous improvement 

You’ll play an important role in strengthening repair capability, improving technical processes and helping the lab deliver high-quality probe repairs. 

This role will suit you if you… 

• Have an HNC, HND or degree in engineering, manufacturing, materials, electronics, biomedical science, medical technology or a related discipline 
• Bring practical experience in repair, testing, manufacturing, maintenance, prototyping or technical development 
• Are comfortable carrying out careful, detailed hands-on work 
• Enjoy investigating how things work, why they fail and how they can be improved 
• Can follow procedures while still thinking critically about better ways of working 
• Are methodical, organised and confident keeping accurate technical records 
• Have good manual dexterity and attention to detail 
• Take responsibility for your own work and ask for guidance when needed 
• Communicate well with technicians, scientists, quality colleagues and wider teams 
• Are curious, reliable and quality-focused
