We’re attending 100% Optical 2023!

By James Green

FMC Meditech is back on the road! We’re looking forward to attending 100% Optical for another year running…

We’re looking forward to returning to London’s ExcCeL this weekend to discover what the UK’s largest optical event has in store, as well as meeting with some of our long-standing clients and other attendees. 100% Optical runs annually, hosting the largest names in the space and showcasing the most cutting-edge new tech on the market.

Last year, our Meditech Director Ryan Luckman and Head of Ophthalmology, Natasha Szombara are the ones to the event – but this year they’re handing the reins over to myself!

I’ll be available to chat all things optical – I'm also looking to discuss, and share my insights into salaries and benefits, motivators to move for candidates operating in the space, and how companies can attract and retain top talent in the face of an extremely competitive recruitment landscape.

So, what are we expecting?

Over the years, FMC has attended, exhibited at and reviewed 100% Optical – both before and after it’s 2020 merger with Optrafair. Last year, we saw a noticeable decline in footfall compared to the times we attended prior to the two combining – and the networking events, which were once a popular part of Optrafair, unfortunately no longer present.

However, we do have higher hopes as this year’s event is said to be the “biggest and best ever” according to Nathan Garnett, Event Director of 100% Optical. I’ve also noticed there’s been a return of the networking events – and with close to 10,000 global attendees, I’m hoping their return will be as useful as Ryan and Natasha have previously found them to be.

What else are we looking forward to?

Tim Cole, Clinical Affairs Manager at Heidelberg Engineering is set to deliver a talk on the future of Optical Coherence Tomography and how AI will both enhance and ease patient and practitioner experience. As we partner with Optos, who are leaders in this space, it’ll be great to hear where tech is heading in the visual diagnostics market.

Committed to championing the independent eyewear designers, 100% Optical has compiled a selection of independent eyewear designers in the Studio space, sponsored by Nikon. This will be a great chance to see what’s to come for the space – especially as we partner with many high-end premium lens manufacturers such as Hoya, Rodenstock and Zeiss Vison Care.

Last year EssilorLuxottica made its UK debut with much-anticipated launches of its extensive product range including the Vision station 700, Vision-R800 and Myopia Expert 700 – designed to detect, follow, and monitor the progression of refraction and axial length for effective myopia management. They also presented market leading products in Dry Eye diagnostics and treatments – so we’re looking forward to see what they’re going to bring to the table the year!

And finally, I’m excited for ‘The Art of Prescribing for Myopia’ seminar delivered by CooperVision. With Myopia being front and center in the optics industry these past few years and the time sensitive nature of the affliction, there is no surprise it has become a focal point in terms of developing teams revolving around the ailment. It’ll be interested to hear which companies are inevitably going to join the battle against myopia in the near future.

Fancy a chat?

I will be available to speak to throughout the day on Saturday 25th February about a number of topics, including (but not limited to!):

  • Insight on salary trends, bonus structures and benefits packages in the eye care space
  • How brands are being perceived in the market
  • What is motivating eye care professionals to move roles
  • Recruitment trends in the ophthalmic space

Feel free to get in touch if you’d like to have a meeting at 100% Optical, you can email me on james.green@fmctalent.com.
