Motorsport 2025 Wrap Up

By Sam Lingwood

2025 has proven to be yet another interesting year within motorsports, let's take a brisk walk down memory lane.

Throughout the year, our brilliant team of recruitment consultants have been heavily involved in building out teams and filling senior roles in motorsports and clean propulsion companies across the globe. We're proud of the role we play in moving the industry forward year-on-year, so we wanted to take a moment to celebrate the year we've had and share our thoughts ahead of our festive shutdown.

A season to celebrate for McLaren

We can't do a wrap up of the year without mentioning the gargantuan effort from McLaren in completing the double in Formula 1. The Constructors' Championship was wrapped up a while ago, but the Drivers' Championship somehow came down to the final day. Verstappen did his absolute best to push Norris for the title, but it proved to be too much of a mountain to climb after the McLaren dominance in the first half of the season.

I almost want to describe this season as a rags-to-riches story for McLaren, but the analogy doesn't quite work as F1 teams rarely have to put up with rags and only really deal with riches. This is their first double title since 1998, and it's safe to say the team has had its fair share of hardships in the time between. It's almost hard to remember a time when McLaren weren't a mainstay on the podiums across the season, but the 2010s brought its fair share of disappointments for the team.

The reason I go into this is that I think it works as a great message to take forward into 2026. In business, and in life, there will be times where you feel like you are taking something of a backwards step. Maybe it feels like things aren't quite going your way. But that doesn't mean you should count yourself out. A mixture of well thought out decisions, perseverance, and a bit of patience can go a long way to making sure you’re back on track.

A look ahead to the 2026 season

Next year in F1 is set to be something of a new beginning for the competition with some of the biggest rule changes in recent history set to come into play from the start of the new season. Teams have been planning for this change for a number of years due to how impactful they will be to the vehicles. If you want a bit of insight into these rule changes, we wrote a blog at the start of the year that goes into a bit more detail about what these changes are and what they mean, read that here.

Notable stats from our time in motorsports recruitment

We work with some great companies in the industry. Understandably, we can't disclose who these companies are, and we can't disclose the roles either. So, this section will just go into our cumulative stats across our 20 years in the industry. Overall, we've supported teams in achieving:

  • Over 18,000 total points
  • 221 Pole positions
  • 215 Race wins
  • 569 Podium finishes
  • 187 fastest laps

And countless memorable races and moments. We're proud to play a role in the most exhilarating sport in the world!

Exciting plans in 2026

We're thrilled to be attending the Budapest Grand Prix this upcoming season, being invited as a special guest by one of the teams! Chris and his family actually attended this Grand Prix back in 2019; his daughter wrote a blog about their time there, which you can read here.

This is a race that takes place at a pivotal moment in the season and always remains competitive; keep an eye out for some content around our time in Budapest in July!

We also have our eyes on another motorsport event taking place in Europe, but we will keep our lips sealed on this one for now...

Moments of celebration in the team

The team welcomed two new members to their ranks in 2025!

Dave was the first new recruit to join Team Motorsport, joining as a Senior Account Manager. Coming into the company with heaps of experience in recruitment, he stepped in straight away and has helped build strong relationships with clients, new and old!

Not long after, we also welcomed Rohan into the group, joining as a Senior Recruiter. He's jelled with the team and made a cracking start to life at FMC. We're excited to see how he grows into his role further in the new year.

We also celebrated 2 promotions in the team this year! Rhys achieved promotion to Account Manager; he's been with the team for a number of years now and has never failed to impress the team and his clients with his excellent work.

Phil also achieved promotion to Senior Recruiter! His attitude is exemplary, and his ability to build rapport with his candidates is truly something to behold. We can't talk about Phil without mentioning our favourite bit of feedback of the year. 'Phil is nice.' 5 stars. We couldn't sum him up better if we tried!

There's only one more thing left to say. We hope you all have a fantastic holiday season, and we look forward to placing even more top candidates into top roles in motorsport in the new year!
