Hannover Messe 2022 – Kim’s review

By Kimberley Wellen

Last week, FMC Smart Industry attended Hannover Messe 2022 in Germany – here’s our thoughts on the event!

Following a few years of being unable to attend events, myself and my colleagues, Justin Pritchard and William Adamthwaite, headed to Germany last week to attend Hannover Messe 2022.

As one of the most important dates in the calendar for the industry, it is the place to be for those working in digital transformation and Industry 4.0 space – and we were thrilled that it lived up to our expectations.

So, what did we think?

As a whole, we found the trip incredibly valuable. From networking opportunities to hordes of new tech on display, it was well worth the trip. As industry specialists, forming meaningful partnerships with clients where we are able to demonstrate our teams’ expert knowledge in the worlds we recruit in is one of the most important things to do… and Hannover gave us the chance to do just this!

One week on from returning back to the UK, I’ve taken to reflect on the benefits of attending. Here’s my highlights from the event…

Face to face, finally!

My main takeaway from the trip is how incredibly insightful it is to be able to meet with clients in person, both new and old. Due to geographic reasons, I’ve not – until now – had the opportunity to meet with many of the clients I work closely with on a regular basis.

Over three days, I met with Cognite, Element, Drishti, Relayr, Crosser, GE Digital, Litmus Automation, Senseye, Augury, Sensata Technologies, Schneider Electric, Treon, ANSYS, Sight Machine, Seeq and Machine Metrics – all huge names in the space. A real highlight was meeting with Jon Sobel, CEO of Sight Machine, who came all the way from San Francisco!

Alongside meeting with existing clients, the networking opportunities were second to none. Not only was meeting with existing contacts positive for our own relationships – but a selection of them offered to introduce myself and my team to other key players in the industry who may benefit from partnering with FMC in the future.

Being able to make these introductions in person allowed us to get more from the meeting than we would when comparing it to a phone or video call – they gave a much more personable approach and heightened the desire to partner with each other and reach the same end goal.

Tech, tech and more tech

This year’s event theme was “Digitalisation and Sustainability”, meaning we had the opportunity to see and hear first-hand about the technological advancements that have happened in recent years.

A particular highlight was seeing Cognite’s InRobot technology and hear about how the product can automate repetitive tasks and carry out remote inspections, maintenance and repair tasks, eliminating the need for individuals to travel to hazardous environments.

We also found out more about Sight Machine’s partnership with Microsoft, and how Sight Machine has been a key technology contributor to Microsoft Germany’s “Microsoft in Manufacturing” initiative to help manufacturers quickly achieve results in digital transformation projects.

Crosser demonstrated how their edge analytics and low code integration technology can help their customers unlock the full potential of their data.

And last but certainly not least, Seeq announced how their partnership with AWS allows customers to expand their use of Seeq by connecting it to GE Digital’s Proficy Historian for Cloud.

What’s the verdict?

As a team, we found the event hugely beneficial and it was fantastic to see some of the technology from our space in action, as well as meeting with our all-important connections and help to build new ones with the companies we introduced FMC Smart Industry to.

We’re already looking forward to attending the event in years to come!
