C-Suite Bonuses & LTIs

By Charlotte Ashton

At C-suite level, big salaries are practically a given at this point, particularly if you're at a company that's leading the way in their market.

So, how do companies attract new C-suite talent to join? You could try and offer them an even higher salary, but increasingly it's benefits and long-term incentives (LTIs) that are popular amongst C-suite level.

LTIs

These are similar to annual bonuses, except the performance period usually spans 3-5 years rather than it being on a monthly, quarterly, or yearly basis. Executives might only receive their reward when this vesting period is over, or they might get proportionate value each year.

This varies from company to company. These rewards are usually cash, equity, or a mix of the two, but they can come in various forms including:
    - Stocks & stock options
    - Shares
    - Profit-sharing

LTIs tend to vary from sector to sector, with the healthcare industry actually offering the largest percentage of total compensation through LTIs. A strong LTI scheme can overall be worth between 379% and 525% of base salary, so there's lots of earning potential to be had.

Benefits

As well as LTIs, you can't forget that a range of traditional benefits are also necessary to round off a great compensation package. From lump-sum pension contributions becoming more popular, to expectations of premium health insurance plans, here's some of the most common benefits in a C-suite compensation package:
    - Increased pension contributions
    - Retirement plans
    - EV/Hybrid company car
    - Funded development
    - Exclusive club memberships

These benefits are nice and all, but what actually is the importance in having them? It's all about talent acquisition and retention. Offering a generous benefits package helps to attract the top talent in the industry as well as retain your top performers.
