5 top digital construction companies to work for

By Joe Coleman

Growth in the digital construction space has led to an increase in recruitment – here’s some of the top companies to work for this year.

Following a period of instability caused by the pandemic, many markets – such as digital construction – are busier than ever. The SME & start-up market is booming, global software vendors are continuing to innovate, and contractors are driving technology awareness.

Not only is 2022 proving to be an exciting time for companies in the space, but the growth being experienced by them brings an increase in recruitment. With this in mind and based on the conversations my team and I are having with digital construction professionals; I’ve put together five of my top technology companies to work for and a selection of their achievements in the last year:

Bentley Systems

2021 saw a whole host of acquisitions for the well-known Bentley Systems – with Ontracks Consulting, INRO Software, SPIDA Software, Seequent Holdings Ltd and Power Line Systems being just a handful. The Bentley Education programme also saw a global expansion – offering free access to learning licenses of over 60 popular Bentley applications to students and educators.

A strong 2021 plus consistently good employee reviews citing a dynamic company culture and flexible working make Bentley Systems a popular choice with candidates.

Featured in this year’s Top Construction Tech Startups list published by Tracxn, Buildots has been receiving plenty of praise across the industry for its AI solution connected to 360-degree construction cameras. In August last year, the company brought its total funding amount to $46 million after announcing a further $30 million in Series B funding, and it also won the One to Watch category at 2020’s Construction Computing Awards.

With employees complimenting the company for its “amazing product and amazing people”, it’s easy to see why candidates are becoming increasingly interested in working for Buildots.

With a $55 million C funding round led by Alkeon Capital Management, 2021 was an exciting year for?OpenSpace which released a number of cutting-edge technologies – including the launch of OpenSpace Basic in August, the construction industry’s first completely free 360° Video Capture Tool.

The company ended the year with the release of the beta of OpenSpace 3D Scans, a new 3D scanning capability for its automated construction site capture and mapping solutions. And when company reviews mention a fantastic growth mindset, close-knit team, and great benefits package, it’s no wonder Openspace appeals to candidates.

As if being the winner of the G2 2022 Best Software Awards wasn’t enough to attract new candidates, Procore boasts a spot on the Best Software Products list as the only dedicated construction technology software included.

November saw the additions of Levelset and LaborChart, allowing Procore to manage complex compliance workflows and improve the payment process in the construction industry. An acquisition of INDUS.AI in May brought an artificial intelligence-powered analytics platform to the market leader.

2021 was also a year of considerable international growth for Procore, who announced an expansion into Southeast Asia (ASEAN) in June, followed by a partnership with investor Mubadala which enabled growth into both the Middle East and North Africa.

Trimble?spent last year working with many big names. Partnerships with both Microsoft and Horsch saw the company driving digital transformation across a number of industries, such as the release of autonomy solutions to the agriculture market in April.

The software provider also expanded its portfolio of infrastructure solutions in December, setting the company on an exciting trajectory for 2022. Its new GNSS Base Station provides users with enhanced satellite tracking and remote operation – the improvements will be felt across Civil Construction, Geospatial and Agriculture Applications.

Cutting edge technologies are always attractive to candidates looking to join a market-leading company, and that combined with Trimble’s flexible approach to creating a strong work-life balance makes them a popular choice.
