A great day at Optrafair for FMC Meditech

FMC Meditech had such a great day on Monday at Optrafair, and on reflection I realised how much has changed for me over the 5 years I’ve worked in the market. I attended the very same event 4 years ago when I was starting out and had an entirely different experience, walking in to a room full of impressive businesses and not knowing many people made me feel a little bit out of my depth!
I’ve spent these last 5 years developing our ophthalmology and optometry specialism, predominantly focusing on recruiting Sales, Clinical Applications and Field Service Engineer professionals. Monday highlighted to me just how valuable the knowledge and network I have built over these years has been. Key to this is the relationships with all the lovely people I bumped into from placed candidates through to long-term clients!
Seeing successful people at work
Without a doubt, one of the best things for me that day was seeing with my own eyes candidates that we have placed into roles, hard at work and fulfilling their potential.
The realisation of just how many people I’ve placed within the market hit me – I feel proud that it’s my candidates out there having an impact in the industry and on the performance of the companies they operate within!
One of the key demands from my clients is talented sales professionals; and as always, these types of events enable us to see these individuals in action which is a real learning experience for me! I work across equipment manufacturers, equipment distributors and private hospitals in the ophthalmology and optometry worlds; it was great to see the different approaches from individuals within these organisations in respect to business development, relationship building and providing that completely consultative service.
This has given me something really tangible to take away from the event and consider moving forward!
The art of knowing your market
I am in such a lucky position to work in this amazing, extremely interesting and high-tech market. Being a geek at heart – the fact that I get to do things like see surgeries taking place and listen in on CET sessions is a real privilege.
Not only that but it’s increasingly apparent that getting to know the market and technology allows me to really understand what domain knowledge is critical for candidates going into my client organisations!
At FMC, we pride ourselves on this knowledge of the market so showing our faces at events like Optrafair is just another opportunity for us to learn first-hand what our clients do and allows us to provide a better service.
Thank you to everyone who stopped to chat with me… next year we hope to have our own stand!
