Job description

Do you have 3 years’ experience in a new product programme management function? Our client is currently looking for a Vehicle Programme Leader to join their team in North Yorkshire.  


The company 

Our client design, manufacture and sell advanced single and double deck buses within the automotive market. They have developed a range of low-carbon buses with optimised drive systems, setting the benchmark for fuel economy and CO2 reduction. Their lightweight engineering, premium service and low running costs all contribute to these advanced passenger vehicles designed for a global market. 


The role 

As Vehicle Programme Leader, you’ll guide the vehicle line programme team to orchestrate activities to delivery vehicle programmes from concept through to series production, including the cost, quality and timing objectives.  

The role proactively measures and assures that the programme team fulfil the functional requirements, and that key stakeholders are aligned. 
Responsibilities include: 

  • Planning readiness and lead delivery of all programme gateway events 

  • Orchestrating maintenance of the product definition book (PDB) 

  • Defining and achieving investment and variable cost targets 

  • Ensuring alignment to the PDB and Bill of Material (BoM) at all phases 

  • Leading the programme team to plan and track the engineering release timing schedule 

  • Collating, reviewing, and reporting the BoM status  

  • Delivering the product criteria as defined by the product development process 

  • Leading the programme team to support the prototype function 

  • Maintaining the programme risk register 

  • Progressing workstreams, identifying issues and proposing solutions and decisions 

  • Continuing the evolution of the R&D function to meet the present and future product strategy 


The requirements 

You’ll have a minimum of 3 years recent experience in a new product programme management function. Other requirements include: 

  • Degree-level education in an engineering field (ideally Automotive, Mechanical or Electrical) 

  • Fundamental knowledge of product development process 

  • Knowledge of core programme financial control 

  • Experience leading others in a programme, product, or engineering environment 

  • Proficient in generating timing plans, and leading and measuring activity delivery 

  • Experience working with/within a commercial function 

  • Vehicle electrification product experience 

  • Familiar with PLM and ERP systems as a provider, user, or customer 

  • Proficient at presenting technical material to suit different audiences 

  • Excellent computer literacy skills (Microsoft Office)  

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 

  • Familiarity with a start-up environment desirable
