The role 

As Senior Mechanical Design Engineer you’ll lead and develop the design and delivery of electro-mechanical systems for our client’s autonomous vehicle technologies. You will ensure that the electronics design meets the requirements set out by internal and external customers. You’ll be a technical expert on electro-mechanical design and will apply this knowledge to electric systems to drive the very best in performance.

Responsibilities include: 

  • Leading the design and development activities for electric machines 

  • Producing outline designs and determining costs, safety, and time  

  • Resolving technically complex problems  

  • Performing design reviews, analysing data, and developing reports 

  • Presenting the finding of reports and keeping stakeholders up to date with progress  

  • Supporting the production line when deploying a new design  

  • Providing technical support to other departments when required 

  • Helping the team with design of tests and interpretation of results  

  • Utilising electric machines and systems to develop state-of-the-art technology and drive innovation 

  • Producing drawings to BS 8888 and manipulate complex CAD models  

  • Supporting DFMEA activities  

  • Guiding and mentoring the mechanical engineering talent across the company  

  • Work in accordance to processes and safety requirements 

 

The requirements 

You’ll have at least 5 years’ experience in a complex mechanical design capacity. You will have experience using technologies such as injection molding, fretwork, PCB, and flexible circuit design. Other requirements include: 

  • Degree level educated in a relevant Engineering field  

  • Understanding of the automotive industry standards and regulations 

  • Experience of component testing, heat management and design reviews 

  • Thorough understanding and experience of hand calculations and FEA 

  • Knowledge of physics and mechanical engineering theory  

  • Experience using SolidWorks and SolidWorks Simulation  

  • Functional safety experience working to ISO 26262 

  • Design experience based on ASPICE ME 

  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail 

  • Strong computer literacy skills (including Microsoft Office)  

  • Demonstrate innovative solutions to design challenges 

  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
