One of their core markets is the testing of parts for automotive OEMs and tier suppliers, testing combustion engines, powertrains and more. They are incredibly well respected in the powertrain industry and this is an area of huge growth for the company.


The role

As Senior Control & Instrumentation Engineer you’ll work on controls and instrumentation engineering to efficiently deliver customer projects. You’ll be working as part of a specialist powertrain testing team to support electric, hybrid and combustion engine projects. Your core role will revolve around installing and commissioning control and instrumentation equipment and systems.


Responsibilities include:

  • Delivering control and instrumental technical requirements for customer projects
  • Working on mechanical and electrical systems for complex automotive EV, hybrid, and combustion engine projects
  • Developing control and instrumentation architecture for powertrain test projects
  • Supporting test engineering teams
  • Identifying and implementing improvements in processes
  • Producing technical reports
  • Communicating control and instrumentation issues
  • Driving best practice
  • Programming automation systems to deploy control and instrumentation theory
  • Assessing technical options for testing to achieve cost effective solutions
  • Managing external suppliers of equipment and services


The requirements

You will have a proven track record in the design, installation and commissioning of control and instrumentation on automotive powertrain test projects. Other requirements include…

  • Track record of delivering control and instrumentation technical requirements for customer projects
  • Degree educated in a relevant engineering field
  • Strong knowledge of dynamometers and associated controls
  • Experience with software programming (Python, MATLAB)
  • Knowledge of ABB and Unico inverter drive control
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Able to drive continuous improvement and come up with new ideas
  • Able to deliver projects to specification
  • Good commercial acumen
  • Able to critique and improve activities
  • Able to deliver exceptional customer service
  • Highly organised and able to manage multiple activities/projects
