We’re working with a global transmissions consultancy who are looking for a Senior Controls Engineer to join their team based in the USA.

Our client is on a mission to create the future of powertrains. They work on the full lifecycle from strategic planning to testing of powertrain and electrification technologies. They’ve got a rich history in the automotive space, working with major vehicle OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers to optimise their products.   

Working towards a more sustainable future, they are operating in the electrification space to advance the development of new, more sustainable technologies.   

 

The role 

As a Senior Controls Engineer, you will be focused on the specification, design, development, and calibration of controls systems to be used in multispeed automated transmissions, hybrid and EV powertrains. This is a fantastic opportunity to join their mission to create the future of powertrains by working on the technologies that form part of them. 

 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Capturing requirements for a variety of embedded controls systems 

  • Creating plant models of various hydro-electro-mechanical systems 

  • Developing and designing algorithms using model-based design tools 

  • Generating system level wiring designs 

  • Developing and calibrating test cell and vehicle software 

  • Taking technical and financial ownership for the delivery of controls projects 

  • Project planning and organisation to deliver successful projects 

  • Creating formal reports and documents 

  • Presentation of reports to customers 

  • Contributing towards controls project proposals 

 

The requirements 

You’ll have at least 5 years’ experience in transmission or driveline control system development, as well as… 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering 

  • Demonstrable experience using Matlab/Simulink/Stateflow 

  • Strong knowledge of software development V Model 

  • Strong understanding of the fundamentals of automatic transmission operation 

  • High standards of algorithm modelling 

  • Experience with model-based design techniques for automotive applications 

  • Understanding of the mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems that make up conventional, hybrid, and EV powertrains 

  • Ability to learn quickly and apply new engineering concepts 

  • Able to develop innovative solutions 

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team 

  • Experience with or knowledge of electric motor controls ideal but not essential
