We are currently recruiting for and exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of technological developments in high-value mechatronic systems! Our client is a global leader in the manufacturer of optically biased imaging systems with a reputation for producing gold-standard microscopy solutions.

The role

We're looking for a Mechanical/Electro-Mechanical Design Engineer to join a prestigious team based in Cambridge. The role will operate from a site that was purpose-build to facilitate the R&D and production of the  products you'll be working on.

Our client are an engineering organisation focused on manufacturing excellence. Their state-of-the-art facilities and tools foster a world-class lean/continuous improvement environment.

The responsibilities

The core responsibilities will focus on making sure that the mechanical aspects of the manufacturing infrastructure and products are maintained, as well as supporting new product development projects.

This will include supporting the successful introduction of new products into the manufacturing site.

Other key areas of focus are:

  • Generating design concepts and ideas
  • Product and manufacturing process testing
  • Process engineering change
  • Fault analysis
  • Generating 3D Models using SolidWorks

Not only that, but as well as the hands-on technical design, you'll also have responsibility for documentation, client reporting, liaison with 3rd party companies and supporting purchasing department when appropriate.
 

The requirements

You'll have proven experience of building world-class quality management functions that are underpinned by robust systems, processes and systems, as well as;

  • Degree or higher in a relevant engineering principle
  • Several years of mechanical design experience and a competent user of Solidworks
  • Experience of working in a precision engineering environment
  • Design/specification of directly relevant systems such as vacuum systems, vibration isolation or electron-optics
  • Experience of working in a team that focuses on support or R&D
  • Good problem solving, continuous improvement and change management skills
  • Experience of contributing to both product design and manufacturing excellence
