One of their core markets is the testing of parts for automotive OEMs and tier suppliers, testing combustion engines, powertrains and more. They are incredibly well respected in the powertrain industry and this is an area of huge growth for the company.

The role

As Project Support Engineer your core focus will be on supporting the set up of new customer projects in our client’s state-of-the-art powertrain test facilities. You’ll be installing, configuring, calibrating and de-bugging equipment to support projects ranging from combustion engineers to electric powertrains.

Responsibilities include:

• Working with Project Engineers to deliver technical requirements for customer projects
• Working with the Project Support team to deliver tasks on schedule and to cost
• Owning test cell and equipment configuration for each project
• Standardising test set-up and configuration processes
• Commissioning new equipment
• Communicating risks and issues associated with testing equipment
• Identifying improvements in equipment and operating practices
• Driving continuous improvement initiatives
• Maintaining databases to track the status of equipment
• Procuring, maintaining, calibrating and configuring mobile test equipment
• Managing external equipment suppliers
• Ensuring health and safety policies are followed

The requirements

You’ll have a strong technical understanding of powertrain testing facilities and the equipment used within them. Other requirements include:

• Experience setting up and debugging instrumentation and data acquisition
• Experience with system communications configuration
• Able to set-up technical equipment, including power analysers and measurement systems
• Experience configurating test cell automation systems
• Knowledge of battery simulators and peripheral systems
• Able to own your own projects and deliver against plans
• Comfortable with a fast-paced environment
• Able to identify issues and action appropriately
• Knowledge of ABB and Unico inverter drive control desirable
• Familiarity with software programming languages desirable
• Highly analytical and able to confidently problem-solve
• Able to drive continuous improvement
• Driven and motivated
• Strong customer service skills
• Excellent communications skills (both written and verbal)
