Do you have demonstrable experience in power electronics design? Our client is looking for a Principal Power Electronics Engineer to join their team and drive the development of an innovative range of automotive products. 

The company 

Our client is a rapidly growing engineering consultancy. Working with prestigious manufacturers and tier 1 suppliers, their engineers create complex solutions used for a range of applications in passenger, off-highway vehicles, and motorsport. 

The role 

As a Principal Power Electronics Engineer, you’ll become a technical leader in the design of low and high voltage power electronics projects. You’ll bring your expertise to provide input into a new strategy roadmap, channelling resources effectively to support the business in achieving annual objectives. You’ll also be responsible for assigning and prioritizing tasks to team members to ensure operational excellence is delivered to the customer base. 

Other responsibilities include: 

  • Planning resources and activities to suit deliveries 

  • Providing technical mentoring to the power electronics team 

  • Leading design reviews of electronics/software projects 

  • Defining and executing circuit simulation processes 

  • Conducting the testing and verification of power electronics devices and assemblies 

  • Identifying the root of development and quality issues and generating solutions 

  • Supporting hardware architecture development and device selection relating to Power Modules 

  • Co-ordinating engineering changes and maintaining detailed design records 

  • Liaising with suppliers to ensure suitable technical specifications are met 

  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives 

  • Working in accordance with processes and safety requirements 

 

The requirements 

You’ll have demonstrable experience designing analogue and power electronics, with power ratings over 150kW, as well as: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical or Electronic Engineering 

  • Knowledge of drive/monitoring circuitry including use of wide bandgap power devices 

  • Strong first principles approach with experience delivering tolerance and lifetime calculations 

  • Excellent analogue and HV digital design skills 

  • Background within the automotive industry is desirable 

  • Customer-focused with excellent communication and interpersonal skills 

  • Able to work independently as well as part of a team 

  • Fast learner who embraces new technology and challenges 

  • Results-orientated and driven 

  • Full UK Driver’s License
