This is a fantastic opportunity to join our client who are creating the future of sustainable travel. They are currently looking a Prototype Properties Principal Engineer to join their team. 

 

The company 

Our client design, manufacture and sell advanced single and double deck buses within the automotive market. They have developed a range of low-carbon buses with optimised drive systems, setting the benchmark for fuel economy and CO2 reduction. Their lightweight engineering, premium service, and low running costs all contribute to these advanced passenger vehicles designed for a global market. 

 

The role 

As Prototype Properties Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for all prototypes and building to support preproduction development schedules. You will lead a talented team of engineers on these projects to support the design and manufacture of prototype parts. This is a fantastic opportunity to join their mission to create the future of sustainable travel by working on the technologies that form part of them.
 
Responsibilities include: 

  • Leading on prototype builds to support preproduction development build schedules 

  • Supporting QCD 

  • Leading a team of engineers working on prototype development properties 

  • Leading on the development build plan 

  • Verifying the specification of properties to ensure vehicles meet product definitions 

  • Fulfilling DVP requirements 

  • Overseeing the development build tooling requirements for prototypes 

  • Designing and manufacturing the prototype and bridging parts 

  • Looking after the ETRS for prototype and bridging parts 

  • Planning and reporting on the budget 

  • Liaising with external suppliers 

  • Providing technical support and root cause analysis for development issues 

  • Presenting project reports 

  • Coordinating and participating in build reviews 

 

The requirements 

You’ll have at least 5 years’ experience in prototype development builds and processes and will have experience in the automotive or commercial vehicle industries. Other requirements include: 

  • Degree-level education in an engineering field (ideally Automotive, Mechanical or Electrical) 

  • Experience working on driveline systems 

  • Experience with and knowledge of vehicle electrification 

  • Strong root cause analysis skills 

  • Experience with new product development 

  • Able to provide balanced solutions for technical decision making 

  • Able to present technical material to a range of audiences 

  • Confident working in a start-up environment
