Who are looking for a Principal E-Motor Designer to join their team.

They work on the full lifecycle from strategic planning to testing of powertrain and electrification technologies. They’ve got a rich history in the automotive space, working with major vehicle OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers to optimise their products.

The role 

As Principal E-Motor Designer you’ll lead and develop our client’s e-machine design capabilities. You’ll be focused on design and development activities for electric machines across the automotive, commercial, and aerospace sectors. You’ll be a technical expert on electromagnetic, thermal and mechanical design and will apply this knowledge to electric systems to drive the very best in performance. 
 

Responsibilities include: 

• Leading the design and development activities for electric machines 

• Achieving best-in-class performance  

• Researching electric machines and systems to develop state-of-the-art technology and drive innovation 

• Solving complex problems (including control instability and EMC) 

• Supervising the building and testing of prototypes 

• Guiding and mentoring a growing department 

• Working across the whole product development lifecycle 

• Executing engineering tasks to the highest level 

The requirements 

You’ll have at 5 years’ experience in production motor design or commercial motor design research. Other requirements include: 

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in electrical engineering, electric drives, or an aligned subject 

• Understanding on multi-phase synchronous and asynchronous motor design theory 

• Experience designing and developing electric machines 

• Track record using electromagnetic and thermal design software 

• Technically minded 

• Experience manufacturing machine components  

• Able to motivate and mentor a team working on a variety of projects 

• Able to engage with stakeholders at all levels 

• Able to drive continuous improvement 

• Focused on value-add and driving exceptional customer experience 

• Hands on and passionate 

• Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
