Are you an experienced engineer looking for a new challenge within the automotive landscape? Following a new round of high investment, our client is looking for a Principal BMS Software Engineer to join their team in the UK.

The company

Our client is a technical consultancy that specialise in helping major OEMs in the automotive space. They are a true engineering powerhouse who develop advanced technologies for their clientele and have worked with some of the largest and most famous names in the market.

One of their core specialisms is around EV technology for both road cars and motorsports, working on state-of-the-art technologies and powertrains. They are leading the way in the world of electrification and they offer a variety of services from cell testing to software modelling.

The role

As a Principal BMS Software Engineer you will play a pivotal role in the design and testing of control codes for a range of complex powertrain applications, bringing your expertise to provide unique, advanced, and cost-effective solutions. You will overcome control and calibration challenges and ensure desirable, robust, and compliant products reach the market.

Other responsibilities include:

• Optimising performance by developing algorithms for state estimation in Battery Management Systems
• Undertaking multiple projects at a time and standardising approaches
• Liaising with suppliers and partners to ensure suitable technical specifications are met
• Aligning objectives with other departments
• Communicating complex technical information with clients
• Specifying the functional and safety requirements for each system
• Developing fault management strategies appropriate for each application

• Driving continuous improvement initiatives
• Working in accordance to processes and safety requirements
• Maintaining detailed knowledge of industry trends

The requirements

The successful candidate will have 5+ years of demonstrable experience as a Battery and/or HV engineer as part of an OEM, Tier 1, or consultancy with a track record of working on in automotive or motorsport applications, as well as:

• Degree educated in Software, Hardware, Electronics or Electrical Engineering (or another Engineering discipline)
• Demonstrable experience of ICE and EV powertrain and Energy Storage System (ESS) architecture
• Experience of typical coding tools (including MATLAB, Simulink and C++) for control systems
• Experience with application layer design for Battery and HV system software
• Knowledge of battery test and approval standards
• Familiarity with SIL and HIL test tools as well as Functional Safety methodology and requirements

• Highly organised with experience of delivering projects in a time-dependent, high pressure environment
• Customer focused with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Outstanding information gathering and problem solving skills
• Driven team player who is proactive, results-orientated and driven
