Our client has a trophy-studded history in the motorsports space, with wins spanning many iconic races around the world. They’re currently looking for a Performance Engineer to join their team and help them to engineer the best car performance on the grid. Efficiency, speed, and reliability is their goal and you’ll play a core part in this!
 

The role

As Performance Engineer – Systems, you’ll lead the at-track performance engineering support with the goal of optimising vehicle dynamics. This is a brand-new role in the business that’s been created to support their future goals, and you’ll be working on mission-critical systems that are key to the performance of our client’s vehicles. You’ll also be working in a fast paced and competitive trackside environment, coordinating with race drivers, making this role perfect for engineers who are truly passionate about being right at the heart of motorsports.

The main responsibilities of the role are:

  • Track specific optimisation of Power Unit (ICE/ERS systems)
  • Developing control strategies and calibrations to optimise vehicle performance
  • Designing and developing human/machine interface
  • Working with race drivers to ensure effective use of strategies
  • Supporting DiL simulation sessions
  • Event preparation and post-event correlation
  • Understanding control specification
  • Gathering and analysing results to optimise control settings
  • Creating and reporting on daily trackside activities
  • Completing root cause analysis and resolving faults efficiently
  • Creating and implementing analytical tools, software, and math channels to optimise vehicle performance

 

The requirements

Our client is looking for someone with a passion for motorsports engineering and a proven track record in a hybrid/EV performance engineering role. The ideal candidate will have worked at the very top level of motorsports, ideally in F1, FE or hybrid LMP1/LMH/LMDh. A strong track record in, and understanding of, engineering in the motorsport world is crucial to this role.

Other requirements for the role include:

  • Degree-level education in Mechanical/Controls/Motorsports Engineering or aligned subject
  • Specific previous experience in:
    • Torque request maps
    • Brake-by-wire functionality
    • Energy harvesting concepts
    • Differential control strategies
    • Traction control
  • Solid understanding of vehicle dynamics fundamentals
  • Knowledge of how hybrid PU systems contribute to track performance
  • Experience developing and using offline simulation tools
  • Advanced skills in Canopy, MATLAB, Simulink and other programmes
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Able to effectively communicate with team members of all seniority levels
  • Able to foster strong cross-functional relationships
  • Able to present complex engineering topics simply and effectively
  • Organised and self-motivated
  • High levels of attention to detail
  • Able to travel internationally to support races and test sessions
  • Enthusiastic and passionate about the industry

Please note this role is based in Indiana but our client would also consider applications based in Europe.
