Are you an experienced HV Electrical Design Engineer? Would you like to work for an award-winning consultancy with a strong history in the automotive space? We’re working with a market leader who are looking for a Senior EV Powertrain Engineer to join their team in the UK and lead the delivery of a range of highly complex, novel powertrain projects.

Our client is a technical consultancy that specialise in helping major OEMs in the automotive space. They are a true engineering powerhouse who develop advanced technologies for their clientele and have worked with some of the largest and most famous names in the market.

One of their core specialisms is around EV technology for both road cars and motorsports, working on state-of-the-art technologies and powertrains. They are leading the way in the world of electrification and they offer a variety of services from cell testing to software modelling.

The role

As their Senior EV Powertrain Engineer you’ll support the design and development of HV Batteries, Power Distribution Units, Battery Management Systems and other components. You’ll be focused on project delivery and will be leading and managing several electrified powertrain programs. If you’re adaptable and used to fast-paced, high-tech environments, this could be the perfect role for you.

Responsibilities include:

  • Electrical design of HV components (battery, inverter)
  • Working with the mechanical engineering team to ensure the optimisation of design
  • Performing calculations to ensure safe operations that meet design performance criteria
  • Identifying and resolving design and/or functionality issues
  • Liaising with external and internal stakeholders
  • Leading on powertrain projects
  • Ensuring engineering activities are completed in line with project timescales
  • Fault-finding and debugging complex electric systems
  • Ensuring designs meet all relevant standards for reliability
  • Ensuring prototypes are manufactured on time to a high-quality standard
  • Recording and documenting the progression of EV powertrain testing
  • Identifying test requirements and priorities for EV powertrains
  • Providing guidance and technical advice to other team members


The requirements

You will have at least 5 years’ as Electrical Design Engineer in the automotive or motorsports space with a focus on HV. In addition the successful incumbent should also possess…

  • Experience working in either an OEM, Tier 1 supplier, or consultancy
  • Degree level qualification in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g. electrical/electronics)
  • Experience of battery testing
  • Excellent knowledge of electrical components in battery systems
  • Experience of managing and leading automotive projects
  • Analogue electronics and microcontroller design experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of supporting battery design
  • Ability to validate design through calculation and testing
  • Ability to design and develop hardware and software for BMS, PDU and CMM
  • Ability to design and develop battery charge and discharge systems
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Customer focused mindset
  • Flexible and adaptable with strong organisational skills
  • Demonstrable track record of on-time delivery in a high-pressure environment
