Are you a recent Engineering Graduate looking for your first steps in the automotive world? Our client is currently looking for a Graduate Mechanical Engineer to join their team in the West Midlands.   

 

The company 

Our client design, manufacture and sell advanced single and double deck buses within the automotive market. They have developed a range of low-carbon buses with optimised drive systems, setting the benchmark for fuel economy and CO2 reduction. Their lightweight engineering, premium service and low running costs all contribute to these advanced passenger vehicles designed for a global market. 

 

The role 

As Graduate Mechanical Engineer, you’ll be responsible for the design and development of driveline systems for bus and light commercial vehicle applications. Through research and development, you will design driveline systems including axles, powerpacks, gearboxes, steering, suspension, brakes, pneumatics, and hydraulics. 
Responsibilities include: 

  • Supporting all driveline systems from concept through to production release 

  • Working on both new and existing products  

  • Performing engineering calculations and simulations for design and validation 

  • Liaising with suppliers for engineering and manufacturing definition  

  • Ensuring all products meet programme targets of quality, function, cost, weight, and time  

  • Establishing root cause analysis of development issues 

  • Creating and presenting technical reports for informed decision making 

  • Participating in design reviews  

 

The requirements 

You’ll have 3D CAD knowledge of part, assembly and drawing creation (Solidworks, Catia Preferred). Other requirements include: 

  • Degree-level education in an engineering field (ideally Automotive, Mechanical or Electrical) 

  • Proficient in generating and presenting technical material 

  • Excellent computer literacy skills (Microsoft Office)  

  • Strive for perfection and lead by example  

  • Able to work semi autonomously  

  • Self-starter and highly motivated  

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 

  • Flexible and willing to work from the manufacturing premises and remotely when required
