Would you like to work for an award-winning transmissions company with a strong reputation in the automotive world? We’re working with a global transmissions consultancy who are looking for a Design Engineering Director to lead their Design Engineering function based in the USA.

 

The company

Our client is on a mission to create the future of powertrains. They work on the full lifecycle from strategic planning to testing of powertrain and electrification technologies. They’ve got a rich history in the automotive space, working with major vehicle OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers to optimise their products.

Working towards a more sustainable future, they are operating in the electrification space to advance the development of new, more sustainable technologies.

 

The role

As Design Engineering Director you’ll be focused on developing the approach to the design, analysis and simulation of rotating systems, as well as building and maintaining customer relationships to enable new and expand existing pipelines. This is a team leadership role, so you’ll also be focused on leading your team to meet the growth ambitions of the company and mentoring the design engineering team.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading the Design Engineering function
  • Developing the company approach to the design, analysis and simulation of rotating systems
  • Recruiting and developing engineering talent in your team
  • Leading on problem-solving
  • Developing and managing the budget for your team
  • Enhancing the company’s reputation amongst customers
  • Expanding and creating pipelines
  • Mentoring the Design Engineering team
  • Communicating technical and commercial progress to internal and external stakeholders
  • Preparing technical reports and presentations
  • Maintaining and developing relationships with a variety of stakeholders
  • Helping to shape the future strategy for the department and company

 

The requirements

You’ll have at least 10 years’ experience of automotive, aerospace or powertrain design and analysis, as well as…

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline
  • Demonstrable leadership experience of a dynamic engineering team
  • Strong understanding of state-of-the-art analysis and simulation techniques used in the design of transmission systems
  • A capable problem-solver
  • Driven and ambitious
  • Strong technical understanding
