Job description

Following a flurry of recent investments to aid product and process development, our client is seeking an experienced Chemist to join their team in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA.

The company
Our client is a global engineering and manufacturing firm with over 115 years of experience. They are a Tier 1 supplier of high-value, lower-volume rubber/polymer-based products for a variety of industries including automotive, aerospace, medical and defence markets globally. Backed by a major rubber manufacturer, this role will play a key part in the further growth of the organisation. 

 

The role
Within this role, you will develop and perform laboratory experiments and analysis with consultation from the project team to recommend solutions to project-specific problems. You will also act as the chemistry leads for products and projects needing formulation changes.  
Other responsibilities include:

  • Providing technical expertise and making recommendations  

  • Conducting routine maintenance and calibration tests on lab test equipment   

  • Delivering presentations to project leadership  

  • Developing new tests and document the associated work instruction 

  • Operating computer-controlled test equipment 

  • Using experimental design (DOE) tools to build and analyse experimental test sets 

  • Designing elementary test fixtures for use in product analysis  

  • Adhering to regulatory compliance on existing and new raw materials  

  • Promoting our client’s company values and behaviours at all times  

The requirements
You’ll have 5-10 years of experience in a commercial chemist role, as well as…

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Materials Science

  • Good working knowledge of chemistry, physics, dynamics, materials properties, and statistics  

  • General knowledge of standard lab practices 

  • LEAN certification 

  • Six Sigma certification 

  • Membership in a professional organisation, such as ACS  

  • Experience in Polymers, Elastomers and/or Materials Sciences  

  • Computer literate with knowledge of LIMS, MiniTab and MS Office  

  • Chemistry Laboratory Proficiency, including titration, FTIR, DSC, viscometry, etc. 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills 

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to organise job priorities  

  • Willing to live and work in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA
