Do you have 2 years’ experience working in a steel metalwork environment? Our client is currently looking for a Body Structure Engineer to join their team in the West Midlands. 

 

The company 

Our client design, manufacture and sell advanced single and double deck buses within the automotive market. They have developed a range of low-carbon buses with optimised drive systems, setting the benchmark for fuel economy and CO2 reduction. Their lightweight engineering, premium service and low running costs all contribute to these advanced passenger vehicles designed for a global market. 

 

The role 

As Body Structure Engineer, you’ll be responsible for the design and detail of the structural components of the vehicle and ensure that they all meet time, quality, and cost constraints.  

Responsibilities include: 

  • Liaising with internal departments on costs, materials, specification, and assembly 

  • Interpreting sales orders, requirements, and options 

  • Designing sheet metal structures and components   

  • Liaising with external suppliers on collaborative designs and design issues 

  • Producing detailed drawings for all components, assemblies, and layouts 

  • Presenting design ideas to others using CAD and Microsoft office 

  • Supporting test and validation activities to meet certification requirements  

The requirements 

You’ll have at least 2 years’ experience working in a steel metalwork environment. Other requirements include: 

  • Degree-level educated in an engineering field (ideally Automotive, Mechanical or Electrical) 

  • CAD experience in 3D and drawing creation and modification (Solidworks, Catia Preferred) 

  • Experience using PLM and PDM within the CAD software environment 

  • Experience with welded structures, and folded sheet metalwork 

  • Experience with design using steel box sections 

  • Detail drawing and GTOL experience 

  • Able to lead a small team or project  

  • Able to deliver on promises and take accountability of actions 

  • Self-starter and highly motivated  

  • Provide balance solutions for clear decision making  

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
