Do you have experience in driveline control system development? Would you like to work for an award-winning transmissions company with a strong reputation in the automotive world? We’re working with a global transmissions consultancy who are looking for a Body Engineer to join their team. 

The company 

Our client design, manufacture and sell advanced single and double deck buses within the automotive market. They have developed a range of low-carbon buses with optimised drive systems, setting the benchmark for fuel economy and CO2 reduction. Their lightweight engineering, premium service and low running costs all contribute to these advanced passenger vehicles designed for a global market.   

The role 

As Body Engineer, you’ll lead and develop all areas of vehicle interior and exterior bodywork including, exterior moldings, exterior panels, glazing, doors, interior moldings, flooring, seat layouts, handrail layouts, driver’s area, lighting, ceilings, and air ducting. 

You’ll be a technical expert in this field and will apply this knowledge to drive the very best in performance.

Responsibilities include: 

  • Liaising with external suppliers on collaborative designs and design issues 

  • Interpreting regulations to ensure compliance of all design work 

  • Presenting design ideas to other using CAD and Microsoft office 

  • Delivering robust solutions through best practices such as DFMEA, DFA, DFM 

  • Supporting testing and validation activities  

  • Ensuring specifications and project targets are met through appropriate documentation 

  • Delivering projects on time and within cost constraints  

  • Leading issue resolution of systems/subsystems level and/or technical problems at various testing, field deployment milestones

  • Actively drive for root-cause-analysis and conclusion 

  • Supporting testing activity to meet certification requirements of components/vehicle 

  • Achieving best-in-class performance  

 

The requirements 

You’ll have at least 10 years’ experience from some of the following industries: Bus, coach, ambulance, train, trucks, trailers, motorhomes, caravans, yachts, automotive. As well as…  

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering or an aligned subject 

  • Experience of alternative composites beneficial and aluminum extrusions and tooling 

  • Knowledge of ISO16121 

  • Experience of using Catia/Solidworks and PDM 

  • Experience of interpreting regulations, Reg 107, IVA 

  • Surface modelling experience 

  • Ability to perform vehicle laden weight calculations 

  • Some hands-on experience of building vehicles to understand potential Production build issues 

  • Attention to detail and technically minded  

  • Strong CAD skills and Catia/Solidworks  

  • Able to drive continuous improvement 

  • Able to be flexible and willing to take technical responsibility for projects 

  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
