Job description

This is an exciting role that will place you at the heart of our clients’ strategy for the growth in the High Performance Automotive (HPA) sector. 
 

The company 

Our client uses the latest design and analysis tools, state of the art machining, assembly, and test equipment to supply high performance transmissions for top level professional Motorsport. Our client’s OEM and Tier 1 customers rely on their specialist expertise to provide innovative solutions in short timescales.  

Their customers are some of the world’s most prestigious organisations in the automotive sector.  

 

The role 

As Assistant Chief Designer, you’ll manage and support a team of Design Engineers who are responsible for the definition, development and delivery of transmission systems and components. You will guide your team to design effective, consistent, and superior products to ensure our client retain their position in the market as a world leading supplier of high-performance transmissions. 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Establishing, maintaining, and managing strong working relationships  

  • Working with Commercial and Operations departments  

  • Ensuring all projects are delivered correctly, first time, and on time  

  • Inspiring and developing the team to support change within the business 

 

The requirements 

You will have advanced knowledge of the automotive market sectors, transmission functionality and design limitations, as well as… 

  • Degree educated in an Engineering related subject 

  • At least 8 years automotive experience delivering technically complex powertrain and transmission projects  

  • Track record of designing and developing products within the automotive sector  

  • Contemporary knowledge of automotive standards (ISO 16949 etc.) and processes (APQP, PPAP, PSW) 

  • Experience using CAD and PLM systems 

  • Comfortable with having technical conversations with Engineers and Senior Executives 

  • Strong technical mind with ability to deliver technically complex solutions 

  • Extensive background in Automotive, Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering 

  • Experience of project planning and managing projects in an engineering environment 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

  • Flexible to travel to customer sites internationally when required
