Do you have at least 15 years’ experience in software sales? Do you have a strong track record in a direct team management role? A leading digital transformation company who work with customers across the globe is looking for an Area Sales Director to lead a sales team and meet company revenue and growth goals.


The company

Our client is focused on driving the digital transformation agenda across the oil and gas, chemical, and engineering industries. With a strong heritage in the space, they are a globally renowned organisation with customers across the world.  Helping their clients to meet their sustainability and operational goals through their software portfolio, they specialise in implementing the latest in artificial intelligence and machine learning.


The role

As Area Sales Director your core focus will be meeting revenue and sales targets across your assigned accounts in the energy industry. You’ll also be managing a sales and account management team so will be responsible for coaching and developing your team in their roles and helping them to meet sales targets.

Responsibilities include:

  • Selling a range of products into chemical and energy markets
  • Driving enterprise sales and deals
  • Mentoring and developing a sales team
  • Supporting the growth of your team
  • Achieving and exceeding revenue targets for your territory
  • Training and coaching account managers on sales processes and methodologies
  • Managing account coordination and penetration
  • Coordinating opportunities with solution partners
  • Sales forecasting and pipelining
  • Managing budgeting and expenses


The requirements

You’ll at least 5 years’ experience in a management role with a strong track record of coaching and mentoring direct reports, as well as at least 15 years’ experience in a direct sales role in an aligned market. Other requirements include:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Business or Chemical/Mechanical Engineering preferred)
  • Demonstrable track record in a sales and direct team management role
  • Able to lead and motivate a team
  • Experience negotiating and closing large deals
  • Experience selling software solutions
  • In-depth SaaS sales experience
  • Experience selling into aligned markets, ideally oil and gas or refining
  • Experience with predictive analytics, machine learning, real time optimisation or process modelling desirable
  • A strong team player
  • Driven with a hunter mentality
  • Confident dealing with C-level executives
  • Able to perform in a fast-paced, results-focused environment
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
