Job description

Are you an experienced research engineer who has the desire to develop better solutions for material analysis?

If you are looking to secure a position in industry and the idea of developing new applications for materials analysis through microscopy and optical techniques excites you – then we have a fantastic role that you should explore!

The role

This is an exciting opportunity, focused on developing better solutions relating to applying microscopy and/or optical technologies to materials analysis and testing processes in industry.

The successful candidate will be working with academia, research houses and industry partners to validate and test new applications – and then establish the pathways for these to go to market.

This is most certainly a technical and scientific focused role; however, the right candidate will also be comfortable and confident in engaging with stakeholders, including presenting to large audiences at conferences and industry events.  There will also be a focus on influencing and writing technical documentation including scientific papers.

The role is intrinsically linked to driving the company’s portfolio of instruments into new markets, defining how these tools can be used in industry and commercialising this.

Products you will be working with include; microscopy, machine learning, image analysis and x-ray microscopy.

What experience do we need?

We are looking to speak to candidates that have experience of using analytical technologies for research purposes in natural resources and geosciences (rocks and minerals particularly interesting).

You will need to have demonstrable experience of project managing new testing methodologies that have never been tried before – this is a real opportunity to influence the way industry applies these technologies to their activities in the natural resources and geosciences space.

The requirements

The successful candidate is likely to have a MSc or PhD in a relative subject matter with proven experience of analysing materials, alongside;

  • Research experience linked to natural resources, metals and/or geosciences
  • Understanding of analytical tools used in these markets; ideally microscopy
  • Ability to approach projects with a commercial mind-set
  • Project management; developing and validating new analytical methods
  • Experience of contributing to technical papers and presentations
  • Ability to generate and manage multiple internal and external stakeholder relationships
